Cathedral Basilica of St. Augustine (1793-1797)

This building is located at 38 Cathedral Place and designated a U.S. National Historic Landmark on April 15, 1970. This buildings architectural design is a combination of Spanish Mission and Neoclassical styles. At one point, on April 12, 1887, the building burnt down again. But it was reconstructed with donations from Henry Flagler.

Lightner Museum (1888)

The building was constructed in 1888 by Henry Flagler, and later Otto C. Lightner purchased the building in order to make the hotel into a museum. He housed several collections, including Victorian era art. Later, he turned it over to the city of St. Augustine and would open the museum to the public in 1948.

For this building I created, I took aspects from the Lightner Museum such as the two towers at the entrance of the building. I then used the half circular back that was also inspired by a section in the museum. I used the circle shape in the middle as well as the towers to resemble the circular clock shape on the Cathedral Basilica of Saint Augustine building. Same goes for the lifted section on the half-circle area, to build upwards like a section of the cathedral.

Ancient City Baptist Church (1895)

The church originally had 18 members who met in the armory of the old Genovar Opera House. In 1894, Henry Flagler offered the church some land to build on with no charge.

This building was primarily inspired by the Ancient City Baptist Church, however, I used the arch windows inspired by the Cathedral Basilica of St. Augustine as well as the roof shape on the tower. I included a fair amount of sharp edges and balanced it out with the rounded shapes of the window and door arches that came from both sets of buildings. I also added sorts of "support" beam on the side, that could be taken from the pillar-like sections of the Cathedral.
